June 2017

Ken Douglas, by Vesta Irene. Vesta had just cut my hair and I'm looking wide eyed at my reflection.

June 1, 2017: Our friends Ed and Kelly came by the other day and when they got here, Ed said, “Ken, I like your hair, you look like a hippy.”

After they left, I went to the kitchen to maybe get a glass of wine, and Vesta said, “Not yet.” And she went and got her scissors.

“What?” I said.

“You heard what he said?”

“He was just kidding?” I said.

“Well I’m not.” And she went to work.

Sgt Pepper Cover, by Ken Douglas with Ken, Vesta, Tiffany and Devon added in among the people behind the Beatles.

Today, June 1st, 2017 is fifty years away from the day Sgt. Pepper came out and we all joined the band. This record was originally mastered in mono and the Beatles didn’t participate in the stereo mix. This mix by Giles Martin is way better.

And though the original mix is so laser printed on a lot of our memories, that even the thought of messing with the sound seems like sacrilege, this recording is like discovering the Beatles all over again.

Also, if you check out the photograph, you just might find Ken and Vesta and Tiffany and Devon added in.

Red Brick House

Vesta and I pass this house on our evening walks and I’ve often wondered who lives in such a pretty place. Is it an old witch lady, who entices children with sweets, only to grab them up, put ‘em in an oven and bake ’em in a pie. Or is it Tweety’s Granny, who shoos Sylvester the cat away with her broom to keep her birdy safe.

Who knows? Well, this I do know, she’s got a green thumb, whoever she is.

Yellow Watermelon. I think she likes it.

Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
When you're everywhere

Boats in Fisherman's Wharf

June 26, 2017: Sunrise Over Joe’s.

That’s Joe’s, just behind the sailboat on the right.

Vesta and I just got back from San Francisco and this time there, sadly, we didn’t have time to Eat at Joe’s Crab Shack. It’s a great place and though it’s part of a chain, it doesn’t seem so when you’re there. It’s a great place with great food and if you sit by the windows, you can people watch to you’re heart’s content.

And Fisherman’s Wharf is one of the world’s best people watching places.

Ken the Handsom Man

Vesta IreneHere is the Handsome Man. Actually, that’s what Ken wanted Devon to call him, because he didn’t like the word, Grandpa. But when Devon was only two, he couldn’t say that, so he called him, ePa and it stuck.
